Our projects

What will happen when and what to expect as work gets underway.

It’s important everyone understands what developments will take place and what to expect as work gets underway with regeneration projects in the town.

The Bishop Auckland Masterplan is an ambitious community-led project with six major areas targeted for improvement. Find out more about what is happening in each area below.

Revitalising our town Empty buildings will be brought back to life with new purpose, while exciting hospitality and retail venues will attract visitors from across the world, promising an urban renaissance for Bishop Auckland.

Investing in our future Hundreds of new opportunities for young people to gain qualifications, thousands of new jobs and 90,000 sq ft of new commercial space will help our businesses grow, future-proof our town and offer sustainable and inclusive opportunities for all.

First class transportation links Improvements to the Eastern Sustainable Access Corridor, plus a new bus station, and additional parking are key to delivering a bustling Bishop Auckland. The upgrades will ease congestion, connect communities, and provide accessible transport links to County Durham and beyond.

A greener Bishop Auckland More than £3.5 million is being spent on celebrating the unique landscape of Bishop Auckland. Work includes improving pedestrian and walking routes, enhancing the biodiversity of our town and encouraging outdoor activity with attractive public spaces to enjoy.

Strong commercial opportunities We want our communities to thrive with sustainable investment from both central government and private investors for years to come. Our town has a wealth of talent, expertise, and know-how and the Bishop Auckland Masterplan aims to utilise these resources through the creation of 90,000 sq ft of commercial space, enabling local businesses to flourish.

World-class culture By tapping into our town’s rich heritage and history, the Bishop Auckland Masterplan will revolutionise our cultural offering. Plans will see the opening of seven significant all-year attractions, developing established venues to create dynamic areas for residents and visitors to create, communicate and collaborate. New social spaces are integral to delivering Bishop Auckland’s exciting future.
